Limousine Tyres

Safety and fuel consumption, as well as driving stability and smoothness all depend on the quality and suitability of your tyres. With limousines this is especially important, not only because safety, fuel consumption and a smooth ride are important to limo hire companies, but also because the types of tyres used on limousines is affected by how much they have been stretched, what type of limo they are and what kind of work they will be doing.

With limousines being stretched to often be able to hold over 20 passengers, another concern for limousine tyres is that they will not meet the load rating of the vehicle. However, there are some limo hire companies and chauffeurs who don’t know or don’t care that their tyres are under rated and are therefore not only putting their safety and that of their passengers at risk, it is also illegal.

The extravagant stretching of limousines has also coincided with the stop in production of several brands and types of tyres which were previously suitable, making replacing the tyres on the new super stretch limousines a trying task.

The result is that many limo hire companies are simply fitting truck tyres to the rims of their limousines or they are forced to track down the original manufacturer of their super stretch limousine and wait for that person to track down anyone they know who can get the right tyres. Getting the right tyres is not only about their weight rating, it is also about whether the tyres will fit in the limousine’s wheel arches, meaning tyres properly rated for one large limousine won’t necessarily fit another.

Limousine operators do however make sure that they go to all lengths to ensure they can find the right tyre for all of the limousines, one which not only ensures a smooth ride and a good fit under the wheel arch, but also one which is able to stand up to the weight of a full blown party limousine on top.
